CSR Activities

Our motto is to practice law with a heart.  The firm, its partners and associates are actively involved in various community projects and CSR activities.

Managing Partner, Akil Hirani, and our firm are involved in significant pro bono and charity work.  Akil sits on the Institutional Ethics Committee of the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), the largest, charitable cancer hospital in Asia, and advises TMC on various legal and ethical matters in relation to research and other projects.  In FY2019-20, the firm made a donation of INR50,00,000 (US$70,000) to Hirani Foundation (HF), a not for profit company established by our firm’s founders for charitable work, which was used by HF to fund TMC for the treatment of needy cancer patients and education-related purposes.

HF’s focus is on education and healthcare.  Over the last fifteen years of its existence, HF has been involved in a number of CSR initiatives, and has done charitable work in the area of education and medical assistance to the needy.  HF has run a scholarship programme for deserving law graduates to pursue higher studies abroad.  HF scholars are now eminent practitioners in different fields of the law, including public service.

Our firm is a member of TrustLaw Connect, a Thomson Reuters Foundation, and undertakes activities for TrustLaw Connect.  It is also a group member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and funds the IBA’s Human Rights Initiative.

The founder partners of the firm are active Rotarians, and the firm makes regular donations to the Rotary Foundation, which undertakes several community projects in developing countries worldwide to empower and better the lives of communities.  In the last few years, the firm has donated more than US$15,000 to the Rotary Foundation.

Every member of our firm, including associates, is encouraged to spend a few hours a month on CSR activities. In 2023-24, the firm made a donation of INR25,00,000 (US$30,000) to TMC directly for the treatment of needy cancer patients.
